Crawl space encapsulation cost calculator
Model planning costs for ground vapor barrier, sealed crawl space, or full encapsulation. Results show rounded low, typical, and high ranges with counterfactual sensitivity drivers—not a contractor bid. Inputs stay in your browser; we do not collect ZIP codes or send calculator inputs to analytics.

You can deep-link the calculator with query parameters so size, state, and scope open already filled. Supported examples: area (sq ft), state (two-letter code), scope (ground_vapor_barrier, sealed_crawl_space, full_encapsulation), height, access, condition, dehumidifier (1/0), and common add-on flags. Invalid values are ignored. Inputs still calculate locally in the browser.
How to use this calculator
Choose your state, ground area, crawl height, scope, condition, and access. Optional add-ons cover debris, insulation removal, electrical, drainage detailing allowance, dehumidifier, and access openings. Perimeter is optional—if blank, the model estimates it from area.
Unsupported projects (commercial, inaccessible crawls, severe flooding, structural damage, conditioned-air systems, sizes beyond limits) return no estimate instead of an unreliable wide range.
Example outputs from the same model
The size and sensitivity examples below are produced by model v1.0.0 with the same calculation path as the interactive form. They illustrate how area and scope drivers move planning totals before you enter your own inputs.
How to read the result chrome
Every successful estimate shows the scope definition, included and excluded work, rounded low/typical/high totals, material sensitivity drivers (≥ $100 typical impact), drainage/dehumidifier assumptions when applicable, inspection caveats, a limited/moderate/strong confidence band, climate context (non-monetary), and links to methodology and disclaimer.
Confidence reflects input completeness and model applicability. It is not a percent accuracy claim and is never mapped from source quality labels.
When the calculator should refuse an estimate
Refusal is intentional. Extrapolating beyond supported limits creates false precision. If you see the unsupported message, treat it as a signal to get an inspection or a specialty contractor—not as a prompt to force a number.
| Example | Low | Typical | High | Typical $/sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 sq ft full encapsulation (OH) | $4,300 | $7,150 | $12,050 | $14.30 |
| 1,000 sq ft full encapsulation (OH) | $5,050 | $8,400 | $14,000 | $8.38 |
| 1,500 sq ft full encapsulation (OH) | $5,800 | $9,550 | $15,850 | $6.36 |
| 2,000 sq ft full encapsulation (OH) | $6,500 | $10,650 | $17,600 | $5.33 |
Totals rounded to the nearest $50 per MoistureCost display policy. Model version 1.0.0. Planning ranges only — not contractor bids.
| Difficult access + 18″ clearance | $8,950 | Δ vs baseline +$100 |
| Ground vapor barrier only (same size) | $4,300 | Δ vs baseline −$4,550 |
| Full encapsulation + drainage allowance | $11,350 | Δ vs baseline +$2,500 |
Is a ground vapor barrier the same as encapsulation?
No. A ground vapor barrier covers the soil. Encapsulation typically adds wall liner, sealing, and often a dehumidifier. This calculator keeps those scopes separate.
Why might I get no estimate?
If the project is outside supported limits or conditions—such as multifamily property, inaccessible crawl space, or major structural damage—the model refuses to extrapolate.
Do you store my inputs?
